slothrop	Posted on: Thu, 14th July, 2005 at 12:19 am   ive been reading the outsider. and i cant decide if its genius or not. i think it is, but the protagonist seems almost retarded. is this that existential thing they rave about?
MrCooper	Posted on: Fri, 22nd July, 2005 at 5:40 pm   I like the book a lot, and I like all of Camus's books a lot, so for me it's genius... If you think the protagonist is a dick, then I would imagine you won't think it's genius... Existentialism as described by Sartre, who I regard as it's real defining writer, is basically an emotional reaction or crisis to the belief that there is no God, meaning or point to life; one merely exists. Camus could be described as having an outlook similar to this, but apparently he didn't see himself as an existentialist in the same vein as Sartre. This is what happens at 5.38 on a Friday at work.
