ive been reading the outsider. and i cant decide if its genius or not. i think it is, but the protagonist seems almost retarded. is this that existential thing they rave about?

I like the book a lot, and I like all of Camus's books a lot, so for me it's genius...

If you think the protagonist is a dick, then I would imagine you won't think it's genius...

Existentialism as described by Sartre, who I regard as it's real defining writer, is basically an emotional reaction or crisis to the belief that there is no God, meaning or point to life; one merely exists. Camus could be described as having an outlook similar to this, but apparently he didn't see himself as an existentialist in the same vein as Sartre.

This is what happens at 5.38 on a Friday at work.

No I don't think so. Perhaps, given the current climate, people have very little appetite for sixth form literary appreciation. Vive la musique....

indeed, do you have any gardening tips? i've been playing backini to my window box and it's gone from strength to strength - i'd recommend it !

Chauncey would probably say something along the lines of:

"As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden."

Or

"In the garden, growth has it seasons. First comes spring and summer, but then we have fall and winter. And then we get spring and summer again."
