Leon Nine

Leon Nine

Leon has never been a slave to the hours that shape most of our daily lives, and while most of us are tucked up in the land of nod, he is burning the midnight oil commanding a legion of grooves that will no doubt keep us awake for years to come.

This Janus faced producer gazes towards the two main eras of the dancefloor, the raw hip gyration of the seventies, and the machine lead bleeps and punches of the nineties. Limited technology has never shackled Leon Johnson's pursuit of making you move your feet to the unlikeliest combinations of sounds and influences. He knows what it takes because he's spent far too much of his time testing the sonic wares of his heroes on the dancefloor and behind the decks. Never one to pander to the dance glitterazzi that destroyed the ethos that made the genre so popular, he's more at home making music real people can enjoy at spontaneous house parties and in less formal domestic arrangements.

Think of the two figureheads that has put Motor City on the musical map, Berry Gordy and Juan Atkins enjoying a short weekend break to Berlin frequenting the cellars and bank vaults that the likes of Tresor requisitioned to present their new trans Atlantic axis. Be careful when coming down those dark steps not to loose your balance with those precarious looking platform shoes!
